Imagine a place with water as clear as a Swvorski crystal and lush green fields with a chance to learn about the indigenous people and their culture. Now imagine this place in India.

The dawki river is located in Dawki or Dauki , a town in West Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, India. The village is known for it’s ever-flowing waterfall and lavish environment.

The best time to visit the place is from October to April. Anytime other than this time the water is

not clear. This is due to rain which makes the river water muddy. Also the rain makes boating

impossible.

Dawki village is mainly known for coal mines and limestone exports which keep the trade between India and Bangladesh. In fact, it is the only place where there is a road route connecting to Bangladesh.

The river creates a natural boundary between Ri Pnar (Jaintia Hills) and Khasi Hills. A suspension bridge is built across the river which connects the two boundaries. This bridge was built by the British in 1932.

The temperature over her is around 25 degree centigrade as the highest and minimum at 15 degree centigrade in moderate seasons. Further fall in temperature depends on rain.

The fish jumping underwater and pebbles quivering under clear water is a delight to human eyes. In March-April an annual boat is being held. The boat race is very special for the locals and even the tourists find the race interesting.

The place is the best to visit if you want to move away from the urban areas and relax. Take a bit time or yourself, enjoy the nature and the fresh air that the place provides.
